Welcome to the official website of Lytham Amateur Operatic Society. This site should help you to understand how our Society was formed, some of our history and traditions and all the things our members need to do to produce a quality musical or operetta for the public.
As you can see from our logo the Society was formed in 1904. We are one of the oldest operatic societies on the Fylde Coast of the United Kingdom and apart from both sets of war years we have regularly produced either one or two shows per year since then. Our main aim is that all members should have fun whilst producing the most professional show resources will allow. We hope our audiences have fun coming to see us too.
Unlike professional actors, none of our performers get paid; they get their payment in the form of applause and appreciation from the audience - for a show well done. This does not mean that we are not professional as our numerous NODA awards will testify.
Support staff such as front of house and backstage don’t get paid either. They play a very important part in the support they give to our performers and are equally rewarded from applause from the audience
Lytham Operatic Society is essentially a family society with several members having brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and even grandparents still performing duties with us. Our membership age spans from 17 to 80! Some of our members have been members for over 60 years. Why not join our troupe!
In the meantime please read on……. |
